The Square’s City
Ben Murphy made some of the buildings and added textures while Earon Gervaise drew up a floor plan of the city then Juwad Malik put the buildings in place to construct the city. The Square’s city was starting to come together now.
Title for the Animation
The group was asked to come up with a title for our story so that I would be able to start the film titles and credits. We were to all post our suggestions and then vote for the one we like the most.
My favourite music band is and always has been “The Rolling Stones” and they had a song out in 1967 during the hippy movement called “Get Off My Cloud” which in my mind suits the name for our project 100%. So I hope the group agrees to my suggestion for the title.
Titles and Credits
Title
I am very pleased to have been given the role to do the title and credits for our animation. I have an idea for this. the first one is to have some want very vibrant colours for the title. Here are some pictures that I have researched of the kind of vibrant colours that I have in mind for the titles.
Credits
I have this idea for the rolling credits at the end of the animation film by having a characature of each member of the group with who they are and what their role was and having them floating from left to right of the screen lounging on seperate clouds.
Completed Models
Hippy Island
These are all of the completed models constructed as scenes by the modellers Juwad, Ben, Michael, Sheni and Jerome and the scenes were composited by Juwad. The first one is of the Hippies island supported by the clouds with interlinking bridges leading to smaller islands. In the centre is the hippies giant musroom surrounded by mushrooms and shelters and volkswagen Kombi vans that the hippies live in on the commune.
The Squares City
This is the city fully constructed by the modellers with various types of buildings and skyscrapers seen in ariel view in this picture
The Squares Office
This is the construction model of the squares office. the scene will be the square character sitting at his desk working on his computer.
Characters
Finally the characters for the animation as modelled by Michael. The Square character will be dressed in a suit and tie and the Hippy character will be completely different in a more colourful attire.
Character Expressions
The idea for the characters heads is that of a television set and these are my drawings ideas for the expression on the characters faces
City Development
These are different ideas for views of the city that I drew.
1) From above showng the road.
2) From above showing the rooftops of very tall buildings.
3) A two point perspective from street level
4) A one point perspective from street level.
Mushroom Ideas
These are pictures of mushroom development. The first picture is showing how should the mushroom be seen. Leaning left, right. forwards or backwards?
The different types of mushrooms. Cap, Hooded or Dome shaped.
Then different color types of mushrooms. Spotted, Speckled or Plain
Maya Modelling
There seemed to be some confusion over the project brief and we were all told we had to do some modelling. Juwad the group leader worked out a list of items for each member to model. As using Maya is not one of my stronger points and I will be the first to admit that, Juwad gave me some easier items to model. These items were a button for the square character to press for the suction vent, a potion bottle, and a log.I made these items using polygon shapes.
After the confusion was sorted it and it was established that we did not all have to do modelling just the modellers we got back on track. But due to having to spend unnecessary time modelling it was realised by the group that we would have to shorten our story. However, I was quite proud of my attempt at my models and with further tutorials from Amin and help from good o’l You Tube I intend to improve on working in Maya.
Well these are the items that I was asked to model on the asset list.
I will be the first to admit that I am not very good with Maya but I persevered and made the button from two shapes a cube and a cylinder. The bottle I made from a Cone and a Taurus for the rounded bottom, a tube for the neck of the bottle and another small Taurus for the lip of the bottle. To parent it was a bit of an issue as was colouring it but I managed to remember how to do it in the end. So I was quite pleased with myself in the end.
This is my hippy environment piece of concept art. To explain. The sun is rising up through the clouds surrounding the island. the hippy was based on our groups original character design of the hippy having a television set for a head with the colour signal for his expression as he is sitting on top of a mushroom looking at his iconic giant mushroom.
I used Adobe Photoshop to sketch the picture and Coral Painter 12 which Airem-Superstar downloaded showed me how to blend the colours.
Sources of Power
In our story our “Squares” character has found a way of harnessing power from the clouds, and when their power level drops they try to steal the clouds supporting the hippies island in the sky.
Over the last century man has harnessed and developed sources of power from James Watt discovering the power of steam, Edison’s invention of the light bulb giving light and then the invention of the steam turbine leading to nuclear power. But with natural resources such as fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gasses running out, man is constantly battling to find other means for sources of power. Fields of wind turbines with their huge wind turbines are now operational across many coastlines. As in (picture 1).
We are also experimenting by using wave power, another natural source of power by using large snake-like turbines and as the machine moves up and down in the waves it generates power or turbines beneath the waves as shown in (picture 2 and 3).
Gigantic dams span the rivers on many continents generating hydro-power from the force of the water as shown in (pictures 4)
Then we have Solar power with solar panel being fitted to the latest housing developments or even being fitted privately to ordinary houses as in (picture 5)
